Birthday tree : ウィキペディア英語版 | Birthday tree
The Birthday Tree is a traditional tree, like that of one used on Christmases, however smaller, differently coloured and used for (mainly children's) birthdays. Parents/Families place wrapped up presents underneath the tree the night before the recipient's birthday and the tree is put up and decorated exactly one week before. It is known to come from Norway in 1945 as a celebration after World War II. ==History== On 2 September 1945, when World War II ended, many Norwegian citizens put trees up in their homes to celebrate the end of their suffering. This happened for one week annually for three consecutive years and as this happened, people born on 2 September tended to put their presents under the tree and decorate it like a Christmas Tree, jokingly calling it a Birthday Tree. The Birthday Tree spread seriously through to Sweden, with the then Swedish royal family praising the idea, making it infamous in the country and also across Finland. After this, the Norwegians took their idea and their Birthday Trees across the North Sea to Great Britain, with many residents liking and using the idea.
